Artist Statement:
“Radiate….Reflect” explores external and internal influences and the process of transforming a negative experience to a positive. The sculpture has piercings through the fragile mirror surface that represents the negative experience. They are worn on a sash which represents a warriors sash of experience. As those piercings go inward they get processed and turn from a weakness to a strength. Positivity begins to radiate out in a ripple effect. The ripples suggest a blooming flower or ripples in water where light shines through, representing the connections we have to others, and then their connections, etc.
As we interact with others we are constantly radiating our energy outward and seeing reflections of ourselves in others. Mirrors reflect back an image and illusion we can create and change, whereas the energy or vibe of ourselves may be a more accurate indicator of self. Energy and image are both changeable. This piece represents responsibility with how you choose to radiate your energy and connect with others. It represents the choice to radiate and reflect an inner glow of warmth, light and love that can then be felt and received by others, and so on…creating a ripple effect.
